International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD)

What is IDPD?
International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is a global initiative led by the United Nations, observed annually on 3 December.
In New Zealand, it is a day to promote awareness, understanding, and inclusion of the more than 1.1 million tāngata whaikaha (disabled people) in Aotearoa.
Why it matters for employers
Embracing diversity and inclusion strengthens organisations. For employers, IDPD offers an opportunity to reflect on and improve workplace practices to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all employees.
Recognising IDPD is not only about showing support for disabled people, but also about taking meaningful steps to create more accessible, equitable opportunities in the workplace.
By getting involved, employers can foster an environment that values the contributions of all employees, including tāngata whaikaha (disabled people), and demonstrate their commitment to inclusivity.
Employers play a vital role in building a more inclusive and diverse community in New Zealand. IDPD is an perfect opportunity for your organisation to showcase its commitment to disability inclusion.
